The last of the Continent and VW Action

We loved Belgium it was simply beautiful.  On our last day we were at De Panne where we dined on baby mussels cooked in white wine and garlic – yum yum!

Our final day of the Continent (maybe) was spent in France where we stocked up on wine supplies before our ferry crossing from Dunkirk to Dover.  The crossing took just on 2 hours and was as smooth as.  Seeing the famous white cliffs of Dover was amazing.

England has apparently had a wash out summer, but it seems we have brought the sunshine with us as we have only had one day of rain since arriving.  It’s very strange being able to understand most of what people are saying and to be able to buy books, papers and magazines again.

This weekend we were at the world famous Santa Pod for VW Action.  It was a three day show where you camped in the paddock.  What people brought in and set up for the three days was a bit scary, they obviously have never attempted a 6 month trip and know nothing about sacrificing luxuries for ease of life – some even had leather couches, fridges, generators etc.  Massive tents to house armies in – it was amusing to watch them all set up, then re-pack 2 days later.

VW Action has to be the best show I’ve ever attended, it was truly fantastic.   There were all ranges of interests covered; off roading, drag racing, show and shine, club events, cookouts, remote control racing, etc.  Too much to do in too little time.  And too much to buy to! – nearly our first domestic this trip over that one – say no more but Mildred is one very spoilt kombi.  She thanked us by pulling a Top 10 Oscar.

Currently we are camped in a farmer’s paddock, by a fishing river with the sun warming my back – bliss – not sure what our plans are, but we are due at Busfest at the end of the week.

  1. We were really thrilled to see you at VW Action; you have the exact same interior as us so we were interested to see how you made it work for you over such a long trip. We're kind of new at owning a VW, and our van definitely needs some work before we get to the stage you're at, but we aim to travel for a similar amount of time as you have, also around Europe.
